Large and Impressive Regency Period Carved Gilt-wood Frame Girandole Convex Mirror with Eagle Surmount.

Description

Large and impressive Regency period carved gilt-wood frame girandole convex mirror with eagle surmount.

Imposing scale gilt-wood framed girandole convex mirror fitted with twin gilt-brass candle branches of swept form together with cut-glass candle drip-pans . Both the top and apron with fine heavily-carved detail featuring grapes ,vine leaves and scrolling acanthus leaves .

The deep cavetto moulded-edge circular frame with an ebonised and reeded inner slip . The inside of the cavetto profile fitted with multiple spaced balls or spheres , the beak of the eagle surmount gripping triple suspension chains with gilt-wood ball terminals. The pediment surmounted by a well-executed 'spread-eagle' , the bird with detailed feather carving and perched upon a rocky outcrop showing taloned feet.

The original mercury-silvered convex mirror plate in excellent clear condition.

Completely fresh to the market having been purchased directly from a local property where it has been for over 50 years .

The gilding in good original condition with no restoration.

A grand survivor of arresting scale and opulent , exuberant design , presented in superb untouched original state .
