Description
A fine and characteristic original study of two Cairn Teriers by renowned dog artist Lucy Dawson. Executed in charcoal and crayon, this sketch dates to approximately 1930. The sketch shows one dog sat peering at the viewer or artist and the second study is of a dog lying facing left. The sketch is signed by the author. The image is 27cm x 21 cm and is framed in a wooden and glazed frame external dimensions of which are 36cm (14inches) x 29cm (11.5inches). Lucy Dawson 1867-1954, was famous primarily for her portrait work and etching, but she was also of the most talented and, until recently, under-rated dog artists of the early twentieth century. Lucy Dawson worked in pencil, pen, ink and oil, but was mainly known for her work in pastels. She published several books of dog illustrations in the 1930s.
