In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Edwardian era.
There are drawers on one side and cupboards on the other side however the pedestals can be turned around to give each side drawers and a cupboard. Each drawer has brass drop handles and the top of the desk has a dark leather writing surface with a gold tooled edge. The locks are stamped "Chance Son & Co".
The desk is in good condition for its age and has been well looked after. It has a lovely rich patina and the drawers open well. The inside of the drawers are generally clean and tidy with just some minor ink stains. There are some normal light signs of age and use, some surface scratches and old shrinkage splits but nothing detrimental and the leather surface is in good condition. The desk has been cleaned and polished and displays beautifully ready for use.
