1920s Silver Elgin Pocket Watch

1920s silver Elgin pocket watch.

The watch has a stem-winding movement, grade 288, which is working nicely. The movement has nicely patterned plates and is fully signed. The serial number 30161715 dates it back to 1928.

The watch measures 55mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is an American Keystone Watch Case Company silver case which was subsequently imported into the UK, hence the British hallmarks inside the case back for Chester 1921 with a mark for the watch maker and importer Marc Holland of London. The discrepancy in dates between the hallmarks and the movement suggests that this is probably a later replacement movement, possibly a more economical option at the time than repairing a badly damaged movement.

The case is in good condition with just light surface marks, nothing serious at all.

The watch glass has a small chip at the bottom but otherwise is in lovely condition.

The signed enamel dial has some hairline cracks but they are quite faint.
