George III Silver Cream Jug 1762

18th century
Description

This ANTIQUE SILVER CREAM JUG is a real piece of history. Made 13 years before the American War of Independence started (1775) and in the same year that King George IV was born, this lovely Silver Jug has survived for over 255 years having been made in 1762 by John Moore, a London Silversmith.

Of classic Georgian baluster design and raised on three shaped legs, this stunning Jug would originally have been undecorated but will have had the beautiful repousse decoration of flowers and scrolls now present added during Victorian times.

Surprisingly, despite having a large cartouche within the decoration, it is free from any added engravings, initials or monograms.

During its long life it has obviously been well used and is not without the odd old repair (unsurprising given its age !) but clearly the previous owners appreciated this fabulous Silver Cream Jug enough to ensure its continued use.

A stunning Silver Cream Jug which would look superb in any table setting and would be a real talking point or would enhance any silver collection.

Please note: There are signs of old repairs to the rim and to one of the legs. These have been done professionally and add to the history of this very old piece.
