Puckerings has dated this piece to the Victorian era.

The top of bell is embossed with word from the famous " The Bells" poem by Edgar Allan Poe - "Hear the mellow wedding bells, Golden bells! What a world of happiness their harmony foretells!"
The top of the lid is topped with a crown motif finial. There is a push button to the front which releases the hinged lid. The sides of the bell are lavishly decorated with cast garland mounts, covered in gold.

This exceptional piece is lucky enough to have an English design registration lozenge which allows us to date accurately the day this model was registered, which is 22nd November 1883.
Made from silver plate built on a wooden platform with gilded garland, it remains in excellent condition; a perfect heirloom wedding gift. 8 1/4" in diameter x 9" tall.
