19th Century Scottish Majolica Breadbox

A 19th-century Majolica treacle-glazed Scottish bread box/larder featuring two identical sides with opposing relief of a fruit-laden urn between scrolls, the adjacent sides feature an opposing relief of grape clusters situated below moulded cup handles. This larder has a fitted lid displaying a relief of two clusters of grapes situated either side of a moulded handle, which when opened reveals a pale cream glazed interior.
 
From a large country house, this beautiful piece of Scottish pottery was designed with large heavy walls and aerated lid to act as an insulator, keeping items like cream, milk and cheese cool.
