A Fine 16th Century Iron Bound Chest

Description

A fine 16th century iron bound chest probably French.

The chest is constructed from oak and iron and is paneled all the way round, including the top and has a fantastic dry untouched patina.

There are three large iron hinges over the lid and running down the back. The iron braced sides have rope twist iron handles with molded panels.

To the front there are four iron key escutcheons and to the inside there are three iron locks with interior iron hasps.

The chest has some warping to the carcass and old woodworm holes, small loss and old repair to the lid , all commiserate with age but otherwise in excellent condition.
