Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
The front is similarly profusely inlaid with flowers; both sides feature very smart marquetry "hatchwork" whilst the back is unusually inlaid with a marquetry gaming table!
The interior retains its original lead lining surmounted by its original kingwood-veneered lid. The cast bronze handle and escutcheon are both original as are the four cast bronze feet. 9ins wide.
