AN ATTRACTIVE LITTLE WELSH GEORGIAN OAK LONGCASE CLOCK. 30 HOUR MOVEMENT WITH BEAUTIFULLY PAINTED ENAMEL DIAL, CENTRAL AXE HEAD APERTURE WITH MOVING MOON DIAL, SIGNED -EDWARD RICHARDS, DOLLGELLEY'. THE CASE WITH SWAN NECK PEDIMENT ABOVE REEDED PILLARS REVEALING PAINTED DIAL, THE MOVEMENT SERVICED AND RUNNING WELL STRIKING THE HOURS. THE CASE WITH REEDED QUARTER COLUMNS AND LONG SHAPED DOOR, ORIGINAL ESCUTCHEON ABOVE PLAIN PANEL BASE & STOOD ON BRACKET FEET. GOOD DENSE WELSH OAK WITH NICE NUTTY BROWN COLOUR AND PATINATION.
RICHARDS RECORDED AS WORKING IN DOLGELLAU LATE 18TH CENTURY AND WAS AN EXCEPTIONAL SELF TAUGHT CLOCK MAKER. HOWEVER WAS OVERLY FOND OF THE DRINK & BAD COMPANY AND LOST HIS LIFE FALLING OFF THE BRIDGE AT DOLGELLAU ONE EVENING.
