Description

An exceptionally high quality and accomplished print originating from the 16th Century. The artist, printmaker and origins are unknown as the print has, in the past, been damaged and rebacked and remounted. Any signatures, dates or other details have been lost.
The print is bright, clean and has a vibrancy and accomplishment that suggests it was by one of the better 16th Century Continental artists, perhaps in the style of Albrecht Durer (1471 to 1528) or one of his followers. The print is 26cm x 45cm, with some loss to the corners. It is within a mount and a wooden and glazed frame, the external dimensions of which are 45 cm (18inches) x 63cm (25inches).
Adam and Eve stand naked in the centre of a richly depicted Garden of Eden. Adam holds an apple and Eve is talking with a snake which has the head of a child and whose coils encircle the tree between them. The garden surrounding the two principal figures is rich with well-drawn figures of many animals -sheep, cattle, goats, monkeys and camels for example. To the left of the print, Adam and Eve are talking with God before their transgression. To the right of the image, Adam and Eve flee the garden in disgrace.
The print is sold mounted, framed and glazed, although the frame and glaze can be removed for cost-effective posting.
Payment by BACS trasfer or by cheque. Please ask about other foms of payment. Please ask about packing, post or delivery worldwide.
