An Art Deco tablelamp by English pottery designer Charlotte Rhead. This lamp base is an ovoid form and has a cream glaze backround onto which a geometric and floral design in yellows, oranges, blues, blacks is laid, the main design is banded in gilt. The trapezoidal form shade is plain with geometric borders. This lamp would have been manufactured in the Staffordshire Potteries around 1930 when Rhead was most active.
Charlotte Rhead (19 October 1885 in Burslem 6 November 1947) was an English ceramics designer active in the 1920s and the 1930s in the Potteries area of Staffordshire. Rhead is noted for her cheerful tubelined designs. Her style was more traditional than that of Clarice Cliff and Susie Cooper, her contemporaries. Rhead's ware was popular in her lifetime and remains sought after today.
The lamp is wired with a modern three pin plug.
Fine books, maps, prints, library furniture and decorative items; bronzes, brass, silver and glass.
