A matching set of six Chinese octagonal plates. The plates are painted with cobalt blue under the glaze in a traditional pattern comprising storks, foliage, a pine tree all in a garden setting with a lake. There is an elaborate scroll of floral design on the borders. The plates are plain to the reverse and unglazed to the edge. Overall, this identical set of 6 is in fabulous authentic condition for plates that are 250 years old. Only one plate has any damage. Each plate is reproduced in the accompanying photographs and where there are any defects these are described below.
Plate 1 is clean, bright with minor production blemishes and a very small chip on the fore edge. Plate 2 is clean, bright with minor production blemishes and 2 small chips to the edge of the border. Plate 3 is clean, bright with very feint lighter colour and a small number of very small chips to the border. Plate 4 is clean, bright with very feint lighter colour and a very few chips to the border. Plate 5 is clean, bright with very feint lighter colour and a very small number of small chips to the margin. Plate 6 is clean, bright and has a hairline crack that is in need of repair running across the plate diagonally.

He could afford to indulge his appetite for the finer things in life during his more than 60 years on the throne. His reign is considered one of the greatest periods in the history of Chinese art. Chinese ceramics was at its peak in many ways during this time and plates of this era were sought after around the world. This set is understood to have been in an English country house until recently brought onto the market.
