Arts & Crafts Hall Stand by Shapland & Petter C.1905.

Description

Beautiful Arts & Crafts walnut hall stand by the acclaimed cabinet makers Shapland & Petter of Barnstaple c.1905. Original brass Art Nouveau style brass hooks with a lovely curled leaf detail to the tips. Arranged on a solid walnut frame with a 14½" diameter mirror with bevelled edge and moulded frame over a small shelf and stick or umbrella stand with a removable drip tray in the base. Beautiful inlaid panel of stylized plant forms typical of Shapland & Petter plus unusual aqua marine Ruskin type enamelled copper inserts in the top rail. Long front stiles, shaped front and pieced sides to the stick stand. Stamped with the design number R1172 on the rear.

Excellent condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.

A very similar stand with the same mirror and hooks and identified as design R1173 is illustrated in the book Shapland & Petter of Barnstaple Arts & Crafts Furniture by Daryl Bennett.
