Dierdre Borlase was born in London and studied at Bromley School of Art and the R.C.A. and taught at Harrow and Kingston School of Art. Bought a cottage with her husband, the artist Fred Brill A.R.C.A. (principal at Chelsea School of Art) at Carperby in North Yorkshire. Their son is artist Bob and Roberta Smith. Died in York.

A colour etching is a fine art printmaking technique where an image is incised into a metal plate using acid, inked with various coloured pigments, and pressed onto paper to create a multi-toned image.

Traditional colour etchings are rendered on heavy cotton rag paper using oil-based printing inks applied to copper or zinc plates treated with acid-resistant ground.

Authentic etchings show a clear indentation around the artwork perimeter caused by the edge of the metal plate pressing into the damp paper, known as a platemark, alongside handwritten pencil signatures and edition numbering.

Frame the artwork with acid-free mounting in a simple timber frame, hanging it as part of a gallery wall or positioned above a console table or sideboard to add subtle tonal texture.

Keep works on paper away from direct sunlight and high humidity, mount them using archival conservation tape, and display them behind UV-filtering glass to prevent fading and discoloration.
