Georgian Longcase Clock, Hunter, London

Description

A fine quality Georgian London Longcase clock. An arched hood pediment surmounted by 3 original brass finials. Brass capped front and rear quarter hood column capitals with brass stopped fluting. Side glass panels to the hood sides. A well proportioned mahogany case with an arched trunk door and choice flame veneers. A well detailed brass and silvered dial with matted centre and name cartouche. A date aperture and well cast corner spandrels. A rarer feature of a lunar moon phase which is seldom seen on London longcase clocks. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell. Brass cased weights as seen on London clocks of this period.

Thomas Hunter is recorded in Baillies' 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of The World' book as working from 1744 - 1799 at Fenchurch Street.
