Description

An absolutely stunning 18th century Pagoda Top fully inlaid longcase clock by the well known London Maker Thomas Pace (1784-1840). Thomas Pace worked in Whitechapel at 128 High street and produced good quality bracket and longcase clocks.
This quality can clearly be seen in this clock. The beautifully finished mahogany case has eighteen individual high quality marquetry panels. The trunk door and base panel having two large scenes of a courting couple in a romantic setting and are in an amazing original condition showing no faults or restoration. Each one must have taken quite a while to manufacture making this clock incredibly expensive when new.
The case has been carefully cleaned to reveal the original shellac finish and has not been re-lacquered. The Hood with brass reeded columns to the sides and original side and top frets frames the silvered dial perfectly.
The five knopped pillar movement is of a very good quality with anchor escapement and rack striking on a steel bell that has a tone unlike most longcase clocks. as can be heard from the video, the bell has a rather higher and delicate pitch to the normal loud bell which makes this clock a pleasure to hear. The movement is currently being fully restored by me and I will publish the photographs when complete. Once restored, I will give this clock three years guarantee for your peace of mind.
I would date this clock to the later part of the 18th century. If the asking price is offered, I will personally deliver and set this clock up anywhere within the UK.
