Puckerings has dated this piece to the Victorian era.

The other three sides of the box are engraved to appear like pages and again washed in gold. There is a clasp here which attaches to the lid, this is where the English design registration diamond shaped lozenge appears, reserved for items of merit during this period. With the registration mark is allows us to date the registration of this design to 3rd June 1878, mid-Victorian in era.

The box opens to reveal a reticulated grille which opens to the box below, all beautifully gilded.
The underside is fully marked for the Birmingham silversmith, Deykin and Sons.
