Le Roy Et Fils - Corinthian Carriage Clock

A fine and quite rare, exceptional carriage clock with Corinthian columns and two colour case. This clock has been fully restored and we have documented the jeweled lever escapement which is the original and stamped to the underside P.Millot. See photos to the left. The backplate is engraved Le Roy et Fils , Palais Royal 13-15, Paris. Number 12571. The firm of LeRoy was founded by Bazile Charles LeRoy in 1789. He was a clockmaker to the Emperor Napoleon, The Duke of Bourbon, Orleans and Princess Pauline. In 1823, he filed a patent for self-winding atmospheric clock operated by a weather vane. When Charles Louis died in 1865 his son Louis LeRoy carried on the running of the very successful business. The shop in London was at 57 New Bond Street. It was a British Royal Warrant holder under Queen Victoria, and was the only foreign clockmaker that had the British Royal Warrant.
