Large Japanese Meiji Period Bronze Elephant & Tiger Group Okimono

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Jon Irvine Antiques

A large Japanese Meiji period bronze okimono of an Elephant & tiger group from the renowned factory of Genryusai Seiya, depicting the resilient pachyderm charging with his trunk raised high as two tigers attempt to take him down, one having leaped on his back, the other appearing to have made the less wise decision of attacking from the front being trampled on as a result. The elephant has a fantastically realistic skin with his ears and underside of the trunk finished with a coppered patination whilst the tigers have a smoother two-toned striped finish. This fantastic okimono is signed in a cartouche on the underside and is in excellent overall condition standing 17 ½ inches tall.
