Rt. Hon. Earl of Durham's Queen Anne Walnut Double Domed Bureau Bookcase

Description

An English country Queen Anne figured walnut bureau bookcase from the early 18th century. The double domed bookcase having very good cross grain mouldings above the 2 shaped and mirrored doors with applied mouldings and 2 candle slides. The doors open to reveal an interior with 4 small herring bone and walnut drawers with shelves and adjustable partitions. The bureau section having a slanting cross banded and herring bone inlaid fall, the interior having a writing surface, 8 pigeon holes and 4 drawers with brass axe head handles. Below are 4 graduated and cock beaded drawers with herring bone inlay all with well matched figured walnut veneers. The handles and escutcheons are not original but old and contemporary. The whole raised on off set shaped bracket feet. Provenance :- Bearing old label “ The Property of the RT. HON. THE EARL OF DURHAM and removed from LAMBTON CASTLE, DURHAM”.
