Pair of early C19th French Empire cast lead bronzed roundels of Napoleon and Marie-Louise Bonaparte in turned circular mahogany frames with convex glass .
Patinated as bronze , the cast-lead profile roundels of Napoleon Bonaparte as Emperor of France and his second wife , Marie-Louise . The single roundel depicts the Emperor wearing a laurel wreath , or ''Corona Civitas'' ,recalling the Emperors of the ancient Roman Empire.
The second roundel shows both the Emperor and Empress in a double profile image .
Each study is signed beneath the bust shoulder ''Andrieu F'', Andrieu Fecit . The sculptor being Bertrand Andrieu , the medals probably struck to commemorate the second marriage of Napoleon to the Hapsburg Marie-Louise of Austria in 1810.
Bertrand Andrieu (1763-1822) was a pupil of the medalist Gatteaux , his neo-classical style suiting Napoleon''s new Imperial aspirations.
Well-cast details, with some rubbing and loss to the bronzed patination, and minor dents to the edges . Mounted in contemporaneous turned mahogany frames with a cavetto profile and convex glass fronts .
