Lobster and Mushrooms - Oil Painting

1940 - 1960
Description

Superb still life of a lobster with mushrooms by the well listed Belgium artist Jehan Frison. The painting is signed by the artist and the title of the painting 'Homard et Bolets', the date 1952 and the artists monigramme is on the reverse of the painting.

Jehan Frison studied at the Saint-Josse-ten-Noode Academy and between 1896 and 1902 and then at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels . It was the influence of Auguste Oleffe that he concentrated on landscapes , still lifes , seascapes , figures and domestic interiors. He belonged to circles of friends of Auguste Oleffe and Rik Wouters when he lived in Watermael-Boitsfort - a municipality of the Brussels. He also had a friendly relationship with graphic artist Paul Craps . He was a member of the Auderghem Art Circle .

He travelled to London and then to Paris , where he was influenced by Post-Impressionism. He finally settled in Linkebeek , Belgium in 1913. Frison uses a clear and pure palette with a thick and colored paste. He visited Morocco twice (1917 and 1928). These trips had a profound influence in the expression of his future artistic creations.

His exhibitions were among the Brabant Fauves artists, artistic movement close to Post-Impressionism .

He exhibited regularly between 1911 and 1920, including Brussels - The Independents, 1914: Brussels: Salon of Free Aesthetics - 1920: Brussels - Art and Literary Circle with Auguste Danse and in 1920 in Venice. He also has works in several museums.
