Gents Certina DS automatic wrist watch, c1959.

The watch has an automatic movement, calibre 25-45, which is working nicely. This is a good quality 23-jewel movement which is fully signed with the Certina name.

The watch measures 35mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is stainless steel and it is in good condition. The inside of the screw-on case back is signed with the Certina name together with details of a 1958 patent which relates to the shock mount of the movement.

The lens is in good condition.

The dial is signed Certina DS. DS stands for Double Security, a system introduced by Certina in the late 1950s for a more robust watch. The first DS models were introduced to the market in 1959 and they had dauphine hands such as this one. Later post 1960 models had the turtle case back but this particular watch has the flat back which confirms it is one of the earlier examples.

The dial on this particular watch is in its original finish with original hands, centre seconds and outer minute markers. There is light marking to the dial if viewed closely, and a small slight indentation next to the number 7 marker.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
