Colourful oil on canvas painted by the French artist Henry Malfroy (1895-1944).
A riverside scene with a floating tavern moored for a while over on the far side, alongside an old chapel, and busy with people on deck enjoying a summertime cruise along the river.
Smoke is seen issuing from the funnel as the boat prepares to continue on its way to the next stop. A couple of figures can also be seen in the middle distance, fishing on the nearside riverbank.
Henry Malfroy regularly exhibited at the Salon of French Artists and Independents and is thought to have been the son of Charles Malfroy, also a successful artist.
Signed lower left and dating from circa 1935-40.
The visible canvas measures 36.5 X 54 cm with the overall framed size just below 47 X 64 cm.
