Large Japanese Bronze Rat With Persimmon Okimono- Signed

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this large Meiji Period 1868-1912 , circa 1900, Bronze Okimono of a Rat clutching a Persimmon fruit , the artist has rendered this larger scale Rodent in great detail, with finely carved incised fur, deep black Eyes and patinated Ears, Rats in this pose are not uncommon however they are usually seen clutching a Chestnut , it is most unusual to be modelled clutching a bright coloured Persimmon fruit , artist signed to the underside within an oblong seal , this Okimono would make a great gift for a loved one or a further addition to your Japanese works of art collection .
 
Literature :
 
Daikoku , one of the seven lucky Gods and the God of good fortune, is usually seen with a Rat as his companion , Rats are deemed to be a symbol of wealth and fertility in Japanese culture .
