Description

Pretty mid 19th century Meissen small cup and saucer of lobed form with shaped edge rimmed in gilt, each set on 6 stalk feet. The bodies are beautifully painted with small floral sprigs and butterflies with a central spray of forget-me-nots in the centre of the saucer and inside the cup. They are further decorated with applied blue forget-me-not flowers and leaves and the cup is finished with a split handle formed as a twisted band of twigs tied at the bottom with a pink ribbon. Crossed swords mark to the base.

The cup measures 4cm (1 1/8") high, 8cm (3 5/8") rim to handle and 7cm (2 3/4) rim to rim. The saucer is 2.5cm (1") high and 10.3cm (4") wide. Condition is very good with no body damage or restoration. The usual small chips to some of the petals and very light surface wear.
