In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
It has two square back legs and each drawer has brass swan neck handles. The handles are not original and would have originally been drop handles but these have certainly been on for a long while.
It was originally made as a dresser base and would not have had an associated rack. At some point in its life it has had a rack made for it which has now been discarded and the slots on the top filled.
It is in good condition throughout and is a good sturdy piece of furniture which displays beautifully. It is not without some signs of age and use and minor stains and marks but this has all helped to develop a beautiful rich patina over the years. It has been well maintained and as such there have been some historical repairs over the years. The bottoms of the drawers have been replaced and the bottom of the back feet have been repaired and replaced to save them from old worm and rot. There are no major damages and the drawers open well. It has been given a thorough clean and light wax and polish is ready use.
