Antique Leather Military Armorial Shell Case Carrier

1900 - 1920
Description

Nice example of an original early 20th century shell carrier, used to carry artillery ammunition. It is made of cork covered in red leather with a leather carrying handle and a canvas lining. It has a very nice polychrome armorial coat of arms applied to the front of the carrier.

It is in good condition for its age. The leather has a beautiful worn and aged patina without having suffered any major damages or losses. There are general signs of age and use and some stains and some minor losses to the cork around the top but nothing detrimental. The handle is in good condition and the lining is generally clean with no tears. Overall it displays very nicely.

These shell carriers are now commonly used as stick stands and make great decorative conversation pieces. The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions please ask.
