Description

Very pretty late 19th century silver dressing table mirror with embossed and engraved decoration of acanthus leaf tips, large arabesques and scrolls dotted with leaves and flowers and with an engraved domed cartouche in the centre. The glass is beautifully bevelled to match the shape of the frame. The frame has been neatly recovered in a lovely dark blue velvet. Hallmarked for Birmingham 1898, maker Henry Matthews, a specialist in mirrors and photograph frames.

It measures 31cm (12 1/4") top to bottom (laid flat), 23cm (9") wide and 16.5cm (6 1/2) deep when stood up. Condition is excellent with no damage or repairs to the silver and very light surface wear. The glass is in very good condition with just a small scattering of fox spots and a small scratch on one side. The cartouche is currently engraved.
