A Georgian Longcase Clock by Samuel Nixon, Newcastle-under-lyme

Description

A Georgian period Midlands oak longcase clock. A well proportioned oak case with mahogany crossbanding. A swan neck hood pediment with central brass finial. Brass capped fluted hood columns and fluted trunk side columns. A raised plinth panel with mahogany crossbanded edging. An attractive arched painted dial with green gilt corners and a romantic scene to the arch top. Blued steel hands with date and seconds indicators. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell.

Samuel Nixon of Newcastle Under-Lyme is recorded in Baillies' 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World' book as working in 1795.
