Antique Longcase Clock

Description

An early oak longcase clock with the original caddy hood pediment. Fretwork below the caddy and surmounted by 3 brass finials. Brass capped hood columns and side glass apertures. A high quality brass and silvered dial with matted centre and engraving around the date aperture. Blued steel hands and a silvered seconds ring. Signed to the cartouche 'Jno Stokes St. Ives No. 353'. A quality 5-pillar, 8-day duration mechanism with striking countwheel to the hours on a bell.

John Stokes of St. Ives is recorded in Loomes' 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of The World' book as working from 1720-1730.
