Antique Victorian Flame Mahogany Writing Slope

19th century
Description

A lovely Victorian flame mahogany writing slope with brass corners, brass escutcheon and matching brass cartouche, engraved with scrolling intials. Inside, the box is fitted with a good quality leather writing surface with tooled edge. There is also a removable pen tray and two glass inkwells. There is a secret compartment below the leather that springs open by lifting a piece of wood next to the inkwell, revealing 3 small secret drawers.

It is in excellent condition for its age but we do not have a key. The brass has been lightly polished and it displays very well inside and out. There are no major damages to the wood exterior and the patination is beautiful. There are some small knocks and minor signs of age and use but nothing that affects the overall appearance of the box.
