The Vintage Wrist Watch Company has dated this piece to the 1900s.
The name 'goliath' was registered by Omega in 1892 for their giant pocket watches.
The watch has an Omega calibre 30''' 8-day stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch itself measures 76mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is nickel and it is in very nice condition, as is the watch glass.
The firm was founded in 1734 but became W Thornhill & Co Ltd in 1895 and they were listed as, 'cutlers, gold and silversmiths, jewellers and manufacturers and dealers in dressing cases, travelling bags etc'. The company was wound up in 1905.

The dial is in very nice condition and has blued steel hands (pin-set), a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track. Originally there would have been a small bulb in the cut-out above number 12 but this has been removed over the years. This would have been switched on and off with the pin to the right of the winding stem. The dial is also signed MM&Co Patent. This relates to an 1895 patent for the construction of special plates for use in accumulators such as the one that would have powered this light.
