Johnstone and Jeanes Burr Walnut Writing Table

Description

An exhibition quality Victorian period writing table by the prestigious cabinet makers Johnstone and Jeanes of New Bond Street, London. Of fine construction in solid walnut and with stunning burr walnut veneers onto a mahogany carcas. Decorated with fine quality inlaid detailing throughout. The desk is finished to the rear so it could be free-standing within a room if desired. The top is fitted with a sumptuous green leather writing surface. There is an arrangement of 7 drawers, all lockable with the keys supplied. all standing on 6 elegant legs of solid walnut with fluting , capitols and terminating in original brass castors. Waxed and cleaned in our workshops and now offered for sale in excellent condition with a wonderful colour and patina, ready to go straight into the home.

Johnstone & Jeanes were makers of fine quality furniture from the formation of their partnership in 1842. Johnstone had been in partnership with Robert Jupe who together patented the metamorphic dining table, but after a falling out Jupe went his own way.

Johnstone & Jeanes exhibited at all the major exhibitions in London in 1851 and 1862 and also in Paris in 1878. The Royal Collection has a piece of Johnstone & Jeanes furniture, a walnut veneered table.
