A stunning quality and larger than usual late 18th/early 19th century "Palais Royale" French SEWING BOX. The satinwood box, with its carved mother-of-pearl decoration and "clasped hands" solid MOP handle, opens to reveal the astonishing interior with its full complement of MOP tools and implements.

These include: carved MOP handled scissors; carved MOP needle-case; penknife; solid MOP thimble; bookmark; set of four "snowflake" winders etc etc. Below is the section for holding silk thread, and the whole box, which is complete with working lock and key, is raised on pretty MOP feet. 11.5 x 8 x 5ins (29 x 20 x 12.5cms) An amazing box!
