Japanese Meiji Period Satsuma Ewer Okamoto Ryozan For The Yasuda Company

A superb Japanese Meiji period Satsuma rice wine ewer by Okamoto Ryozan for the Yasuda company, profusely painted it has a large cartouche on either side depicting people in a lakeside park picking flowers and enjoying the summer weather, including fine gold cloud dot-work typical of Ryozan. Beautiful millefiori work surrounds the cartouches, the top and bottom of the ewer decorated with excellent border work which can also be seen on the finial topped cover.
 
The spout is decorated with Japanese objects of virtue and the handle is beautifully finished with gilt decoration, signed on the underside Kyoto Tojiki Goushi Kaisha, the mark of the Yasuda Company, Ryozan. This fabulous ewer has some very minor wear to gilding as expected otherwise it is in excellent condition standing 8 ½ inches tall.
