Trading with Chile and Western South America , and in particular the international 'hub' port of Valparaiso , was at its height during the last quarter of the nineteenth century. The trade out of Liverpool carrying cargoes of Staffordshire pottery and ceramics was a flourishing international market .

In original as found condition , some rippling and raised areas of paint but no rips, losses or repairs. Has not been the subject of restoration or cleaning.
An evocative subject and accomplished painting in atmospheric condition.
Signed by C.W .Williamson , an artist whom we have been unable to trace .
