Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III breakfast table typically features an oval or rectangular mahogany top attached to a central pedestal column with a catch mechanism. Designed in late 18th-century Britain, these tables allowed the top to tilt vertically, permitting convenient storage against a wall when not in use.

Primary construction utilised solid wood and veneers of West Indian or Cuban mahogany, celebrated for density and rich grain patterns. Decorative borders often incorporated crossbanding in satinwood or rosewood, while brass was used for the tilt catch, caps, and castors.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut joinery, original brass release catches underneath the top, and age-consistent wear to the timber finish and castors. The underside of the top often reveals hand-sawn timber marks and secondary woods like pine or oak used for the block support.

When not in use for dining, the table top can be tilted vertically to act as a decorative backdrop in an entryway or living space, displaying the natural timber figure. When lowered, it serves as a functional four-to-six-person dining table that pairs easily with modern or classic seating.

Maintain the finish by applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, buffing gently with a soft microfibre cloth. Position the table away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent uneven fading or timber shrinkage.
