Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

William IV dining chairs produced between 1830 and 1837 mark the transition between Regency and early Victorian design. They typically feature heavy mahogany frames, bold scrollwork or acanthus leaf carvings on the crest rail, and turned or reeded front legs.

Primary construction relied heavily on dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany for the frames, praised for its deep tone and grain. Seats were traditionally stuffed with horsehair and upholstered in wool damask, leather, or velvet.

Look for heavy, solid mahogany construction with hand-carved detailing, turned front legs, and swept rear legs. Authentic pieces often display traditional joinery techniques such as mortise and tenon joints, alongside hand-planed timber surfaces.

Pair a set of dark mahogany chairs with a minimalist oak or contemporary glass dining table to create visual contrast. The rich timber tones and textured upholstery bring warmth and historic character to modern, neutral dining spaces.

Keep mahogany timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight to avoid warping and fading. Clean wooden frames using a soft cloth and apply beeswax periodically to nourish the timber, while vacuuming upholstery gently with a soft brush attachment.
