Gents 1950s Movado Sport Wrist Watch

Gents 1950s Movado Sport wrist watch.

The watch has a Swiss 17-jewel movement, calibre 261, hand-winding movement which is working nicely. This calibre was made for a short space of time between 1950 and 1952. The movement is working nicely and it is all protected by an inner dust cover.

The watch measures 33mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is stainless steel and it is in good condition. The inside of the screw on case back has the Movado stamp and also the case maker's mark for the François  Borgel of the Borgel Watch Case Company.

The watch case manufacturing company was inherited by Louisa Borgel on the death of her father and in 1924 she sold the business to the Taubert family of Le Locle in Switzerland. They carried on the business until the 1970s supplying many watch manufacturers with cases including Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin.

The lens is in good condition.

The signed dial is in beautiful condition.

A new leather strap has been fitted.
