There are a few clockmakers of this name, but only two who worked in London. This is likely to be John Harris, son of William Aaron Harris. Apprenticed in 1761 hebecame a member of the Clockmakers Company in 1772 (NB: The "verge" or "crown wheel" escapement is the earliest known type of mechanical escapement).
