Masons Antiques has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
It is fitted with a working lock and key.
Inside, the slope is covered with a dark green leather with gold tooling around the edges and corner motifs. It has two secret drawers and an original ink bottle.
Fitted with brass bindings to the edges and the corners, with a brass escutcheon and a brass cartouche to the top. This is unmarked and could be initialed with the mark of the new owner.
Overall a beautiful, original box that would make an ideal gift.
