Magnificent Large Sterling Silver Box - Tortoise Shell and Silver Pique Lid

Description

A magnificent large English circular sterling silver box with base and hinged lid both with a hallmark; the full hallmark is for the highly sought-after Chester assay office and the date letter for 1934. The makers mark is slightly rubbed but I think is for the top notch silversmith Mappin & Webb.

The lid is blessed with the most amazing piece of tortoiseshell with superb markings and colourings ranging from golden champagne to rich chocolate brown. This is further enhanced with the prettiest intricate silver pique inlay.

The interior reveals a nice gilded surface and a mirror to the interior of the lid.

Excellent condition with the base having a diameter measuring 3 1/2" and stands 2" tall.
