George III Mahogany Stick Barometer

Description

A George III Mahogany Stick Barometer.

With an architectural pediment centred by a brass vase finial. The silvered dial enclosed by a glazed, hinged door, opening to the dial showing barometric pressure to the right and weather indication to the left. The dial within a lattice border, with floral swags. Titled 'POZZI, SALOP' (Shrewsbury). The long body laid with herring boned veneers, surrounding the exposed tube, and falling to the rounded and bulls eye decorated cistern cover. The whole, including the door, edged with box wood and ebony rope twist stringing.

Date c 1780.
