Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1860s.
The box again stands out being made from solid Mahogany rather than the more common Oak examples.
The interior is all intact with a plethora of storage for papers, stationery, letters etc.

The drawer is sprung and released when the brass pin is removed. Above this is another long lidded compartment for pens, pencils and the like. Either side of this are the two brass topped inkwells, one for red ink, the other for black.

The interior of the right hand door retains the original mahogany framed slate, these are usually missing or severely damaged, this one is fine shape.
All in all a spectacular box to impress at home or in the office; complete with working key (a little press to the left hand door is required to aid in the locking). Measures 13" wide x 12" deep x 9" tall at back while closed. An unusual shape, shorter and deeper than the norm.
