Mahogany Bookcase by Maple & Co. C.1910.

Description

Fine Edwardian Chippendale style bookcase by the celebrated English cabinet makers Maple & Co. c.1910. Just 39" wide at the cornice, with a tall glazed bookcase top with three adjustable shelves (8? depth) over a base with three long graduated drawers. Superb quality cabinet making typical of Maples. Crisp moulded cornice with dental detail and a blind fretwork frieze continued on the sides. Flame mahogany veneered doors with a brass centre trim and inlaid rosewood escutcheon. Symmetrically arranged flame mahogany veneers to the drawer fronts with cockbeaded edges, inlaid escutcheons and original brass ring handles with patterned back plates. With a second fretwork frieze across the top of the base and raised on bracket feet. Solid mahogany groundwork to the door and drawer fronts, solid mahogany sides and drawer linings. Original Maple & Co. maker’s label inside the top drawer. Excellent condition and lovely mellow colour. Cleaned and polished in our workshops. Keys supplied.
