Regulator Longcase Clock Retailed by Ellicott & Taylor with the Movement by Thwaites

18th century
Description

A quite exceptionally small round dial London longcase clock retailed by this well known partnership and with the movement by the famous Thwaites of London, numbered 5179.

PLEASE NOTE – This clock is currently in an unrestored state but is in working order. Before delivery, the dial, movement and cabinet work will be restored in our workshops. It can be viewed in its current condition at our showrooms in Cherhill. Please find a brief description below. Please contact us for further information.

The 8 day duration Regulator quality 5 pillar movement strikes the hours on a bell and with a round convex painted dial showing Roman numerals, matching brass hands and with the makers name, Ellicott & Taylor of London. Also with strike/silent facility above the number XII. The movement is stamped with the name THWAITES and is numbered 5179 which dates the clock to 1813. It also features a precision deadbeat escapement, matching brass weights and a substantial pendulum with a large brass bob and engraved rating nut.

The unusually small cabinet work veneered in the highest quality mahogany veneer standing at just 6'1" with an excellent patina throughout and reeded brass inlaid canted corners to both the trunk and hood. The hood with a broken arch top and brass inlay. The base finishing with a shaped double plinth.

An extremely rare longcase clock of small size and quality.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
