Alfred Pietercelie was a painter and decorator. He studied (1893-1900) at the Academies of Antwerp, Brussels and Anderlecht. He held his first exhibition in 1917 with the group “L’Oeuvre Nouvelle”.
He found his inspiration in Brussels and later in the Ourthe area. He also was often experimental with his paintings. He settled in 1936 in Jette and founded the Art Circle ‘Jecta’ which is still active today (first exhibition in September 1939 in the town hall of Jette). He remained the president of this art circle till his death. Artists like Jan Verdoodt, Jacques Dormont and René Magritte were also members.
