An antique Kays silver pocket watch with silver albert.

William Kay set up Kays of Worcester in 1890. Customers bought items from handbills in a folder and initially the goods on offer were limited to jewellery, watches, clocks and household items. Eventually William’s son Jack took over the running of the business. The company continued to expand and trade successfully, becoming one of Worcester’s largest employers. 

This particular watch has a Swiss key-wound movement, made for Kays, which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner fitted cover and an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 52mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the two case backs for Birmingham, 1896 with a maker's mark for William Kilbourne Kay (Kay & Co Ltd). The case has light surface marking from use and a few small "dings" but overall it is in nice condition for an 1890s piece.

The glass lens is in nice condition with only the odd minor mark from use.

The dial is signed Kays Worcester Swiss made, it has a faint hairline crack between 1 & 2 o,clock although hardly noticeable to the naked eye but otherwise it is in nice condition .

The watch comes with a silver albert, which measures 34cm long including the T-bar and the clasp. The chain weighs 52 grams.

The watch and chain will be sent in a new presentation box.
